Gautier, a municipal district in San Pedro de Macorís, Dominican Republic, is a small yet vibrant community. Surrounded by rural landscapes and farming communities, Gautier offers a glimpse into the heart of Dominican life, where tradition and faith remain central. The town experiences a tropical savanna climate.

At the center of Gautier’s life is the Catholic Church, which serves as both a spiritual anchor and a hub for education, outreach, and social support. Our Lady of Hope Parish, with a population of 9,015 people, reflects this deep commitment to faith. Padre Ligonde provides pastoral leadership across 14 communities, ensuring that spiritual guidance and parish activities reach even the most rural neighborhoods. The parish also supports education and community initiatives, offering hope and stability in a region where the average daily wage is just $15.

Parish Twinning Program

The Parish Twinning Program between St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Parroquia Nuestra Señora de La Esperanza in the Diocese of San Pedro began in September 2024 with an initial informational visit. This marked the start of a meaningful relationship rooted in faith, solidarity, and shared mission. In July 2026, the first delegation of 30 parishioners from St. Elizabeth’s will journey to La Esperanza, deepening the bonds of friendship and collaboration.

Through the dedication and generosity of our community, we have been able to support Parroquia Nuestra in completing a number of meaningful projects, including:

• Main Church:  Upgrades to the main church, strengthening the parish’s central place of worship.

• Soup Kitchen:  Construction of a soup kitchen, providing nourishment and dignity to those most in need.
