The majority of the funding provided to the Social Justice Commission by the parish tithe is distributed to a set of local 501(c)(3) nonprofit agencies for their work throughout the fiscal year. These agencies have been vetted to ensure their work supports one, or more, of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching and that they are good stewards with the money they receive, ensuring the majority of funding reaches those they serve. Agencies are invited to share the impact of their work with the Social Justice Commission at monthly meetings throughout the year.

The Catherine McAuley Center (CMC) is a nonprofit organization in Cedar Rapids, Iowa that welcomes adult learners, refugee and immigrant populations, and women to participate in educational and supportive services. While CMC’s programs serve distinct populations, they are united by

Discovery Living, Inc. is a local, nonprofit agency that provides residential and day habilitation services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Linn County.
Foundation 2 is a nonprofit human service agency that provides crisis intervention and prevention services in Iowa. They offer a range of programs, including a 24/7 crisis hotline, youth shelter, mental health support groups, and mobile crisisoutreach, among others.
Fresh Start Ministries works to provide hope and basic needs, through Christ’s love and truth, to inmates of all faiths, during, and after incarceration. Our goal is to help formerly incarcerated individuals make a successful transition into the community.
Horizons Family Services, based in Cedar Rapids, provides a range of services aimed at improving the well-being of individuals and families in East Central Iowa. Their key programs include financial counseling and education, the Neighborhood Transportation Service (NTS), and Meals on Wheels.

Mt. Calvary Cemetery Association is a nonprofit organization (it is not funded by the Catholic Church). We have 25 acres of sacred ground to take care of with only a small grounds staff. Volunteers are relied on to help maintain the grounds, there is always something to do during the summer months.
Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center is a sacred space where people of all faiths and cultures are invited to explore and nurture their relationships with God, Earth, Self and Others, with an increasing awareness of the story of the Universe. Prairiewoods is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, a Catholic community.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, Cedar Rapids is a nonprofit charitable organization providing assistance with food, clothing, rent, utilities, and other services to people facing economic, emotional or spiritual crises.
