Nestled in the mountains of central Nicaragua, Boaco is a vibrant city of 29,000 residents with a rich history spanning more than 500 years. The community thrives through small businesses, farming, and diverse rural settings surrounding the city. Yet, alongside its beauty and tradition, Boaco faces significant challenges: widespread poverty, 60% unemployment, and average daily wages of only $1–$2. Many families live in humble huts built from wood, tin, and mud.At the heart of life in Boaco is faith. The people’s deep commitment to God and their church shines through in their welcoming spirit and steadfast devotion. The parish plays a central role in supporting the community:
Education: A Catholic school serves students from elementary through high school.
Neighborhood Outreach: Parishioners are organized into 18 neighborhoods, each fostering education, faith-sharing, and outreach.
Care for the Elderly: The church also operates a nursing home, providing dignity and support for elderly members without family care.
Boaco’s story is one of resilience, faith, and community—a place where hope endures despite hardship.
Cerro Cuape: Completed the roof of a rural church, providing a sacred space for over 700 families who had previously celebrated sacraments in a parishioner’s backyard.
Catholic School: Enriched student life with donations of soccer balls and essential school supplies.
Aguacate: Contributed funds to build a new church, replacing a small chapel perched atop the mountain.
Educational Center & Food Pantry: Provided funds to remodel a building adjacent to Parroquia Santiago, expanding outreach through education and nourishment.
San Marco Parish: Assisted in building a new church to strengthen the parish community.
