The family home is to be a safe haven. But the inappropriate use of technology in the home deprives it of this role, and is the greatest threat to the sanctity of marriages, families, and children today. Pornography and other online threats are often one click away, On average, the first exposure to pornographic content among males is 12 years old but it can happen much younger. Parents can feel overwhelmed with not knowing how to best protect their children in our fast-paced digital world. 

During the weekend of March 7–8, our parish will be joining other parishes in the Archdiocese of Dubuque in a bold step to help families by celebrating Safe Haven Sunday. This awareness day will provide access to practical resources that any caring adult can use to protect themselves, their families, and our young people from online risks.

Today pornography is very prevalent in our society and very accessible. 

Unfortunately, it is easy to stumble upon or get hooked into regular usage or even addiction. If you or someone you love is struggling with pornography usage, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. 

Whether you want to protect your children, aid a friend or family member who is struggling, or seek healing and recovery yourself, help is available.

During Safe Haven Weekend, we will have resources on hand for you to take. We'll also be giving away copies of 3 books that are helpful for families: 

• The Equipped: Smart Catholic Parenting in a Sexualized Culture book will help guide families in how to teach your children to say no to pornography while understanding their God-given identity. The Equipped book can also be downloaded as an e-book.
• The Confident: Helping Parents Navigate Online Exposure book provides a step-by-step guide for parents to have a conversation if their child has been exposed to explicit content. 

• The Connected: How Strong Family Relationships Lead to Internet-Safe Kids book helps parents and individuals become more aware of the value that relationships play in protecting our homes from explicit content.
